SKIN RASHES
Rashes can be caused by an allergen, such as food sensitivities, poor digestion, an imbalance in your microbiome (gut bugs), clothing or household chemicals, medications, high stress, or illness.
Some will go away as quickly as they appeared while others may linger for a longer period of time. The good news is there are natural rash home remedies that can help without adverse side effects.
What is a Rash?
A skin rash is a change of the skin which affects its colour, appearance, and/or texture. A rash can also be defined as an area of irritated or swollen skin. An itchy rash is called allergic contact dermatitis.
Signs and Symptoms:
Rashes can occur all over the body. They may be localised or widespread. There is a wide variety of symptoms and characteristics of skin rashes including:
- Red or discoloured skin
- Red, raised, welts
- Red or discoloured blotches
- Red or discoloured bumps
- Ring shaped
- Blisters
- Itchiness
- Oozing sores that become crusty
- Pus-filled, crusty swellings
- Scaly or flaky skin patch
- Thick and leathery skin patch
Types of Rashes:
A rash is a way of describing skin inflammation and discolouration that you are currently experiencing.
The most common rashes include:
- Atopic dermatitis
- Contact dermatitis
- Seborrheic dermatitis (dandruff)
- Eczema
- Heat Rash
- Hives
- Nappy Rash
- Stress rash
Causes and Risk Factors:
In general, rashes are caused by skin inflammation. One of the most common forms of a rash is contact dermatitis, which occurs when a substance irritates the skin. Contact dermatitis may cause mild redness of the skin or a rash of small red bumps. A more severe reaction may cause swelling, redness and larger blisters.
Common causes of contact dermatitis and its resulting rash include:
- Soaps, detergents, shampoos, deodorants, perfumes and lotions, especially ones with artificial/chemical scents
- Household chemicals like bleach
- Hand sanitisers
- Latex rubber allergy
- Food allergies
Other common causes of rashes:
- Allergy to a medication
- Bacterial infection
- Eczema
- Excessive skin rubbing / friction
- Fungal infection
- Insect bites and stings
- Lupus - Auto Immune (commonly causes a “butterfly” rash underneath the eyes and across the cheeks)
- Parasitic infection eg: Scabies
- Photo-sensitivity to a medication
- Prolonged exposure to heat eg: heat rash
- Prolonged exposure to moisture eg: nappy rash
- Psoriasis
- Viral infection eg: Shingles
Also, a family or personal history of allergies or asthma raises your rash risk.
Conventional Treatment:
Getting rid of a rash using conventional treatment may include a topical cream including over-the-counter as well as prescription-strength corticosteroids such as hydrocortisone. In fact, long-term use of corticosteroids is known for causing thinning of the skin among other side effects.
Pure and Natural Treatment Protocol for Rashes:
Angelic RASH RELIEF - if your rash symptoms are red, hot, angry and inflamed.
Angelic Skin REPAIR MOISTURISER - if your skin is dry, scaly, damaged or scarred.
PATCH TEST CREAM 2-3 DAYS PRIOR TO USE ON RASH. Massage into a clean, delicate/sensitive ‘rash free’ area e.g. behind your ear, medial side of your arm (crease of your elbow), or behind the knee.
PLEASE NOTE: You must treat the underlying cause of your rash. Topical products may help with calming/soothing, and assist the body’s natural healing process only. Individual cases may require specific treatment so please seek medical advice if symptoms persist.
